Archaeological displays from excavations in and around Durham City. Regular events including exhibitions, workshops and activity days.
Open all year (not daily in winter). Admission charge.

 

 

DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery,

The Durham Light Infantry Museum traces the proud history of the county’s regiment. ‘Art Space’ presents changing exhibitions and other regular events including concerts and workshops. Internet Café and shop.
1st November 2003 - Easter 2004 open daily 10am - 4pm. Closed Christmas Day. Admission charge

 

 

Oriental Museum,

The only museum in the country specialising in Oriental art and antiquities. Exhibits from Egypt, India, China, Tibet, Persia, Korea and Japan. New Chinese Gallery.
Open daily all year. Admission charge.

 

 

Durham Heritage Centre and Museum,
St Mary le Bow, North Bailey. Tel: (0191) 386 8719 / 384 5589
Museum of local history in a Medieval church partly rebuilt in the 17th century. Not used as a church since 1967. Exhibits include the Black Chair, a sedan chair, used to take sick boys from Durham School to the Infirmary, and a cell from Durham Jail! Audio show and brass rubbing.
Open Spring weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays, June - Sept. daily: pm only. July & August daily: extended opening. Closed in winter. Admission charge.

Exhibition of mining memorabilia "Portraying the work of the Coal Miner and the rools of the trade".
