Durham - 1000 years of history

Durham University

Covering such a wide area, the influence of the University, the third oldest in the country, gives the city a unique character. University rowing teams can often be seen on the river and are among over 600 crews who apply to take part in Durham’s annual Regatta, reputedly the second oldest in the country. The ancient castle and buildings on Palace Green (Music School, Library and Debating Chamber) are used by the university students, continuing an association which began in the mid-nineteenth century.

Many of the University’s Colleges can accommodate conference delegates and other visitors particularly during the summer vacation. Contact the University of Durham Conference Office tel: (0191) 374 7360 for more information.
